my flight to chicago

my flight to chicago!!!!!

so recently i had to take a trip to chicago. i was kind of dreading it, honestly. i am not a fan of big cities and capitalism hells, plus america was smack dab in the middle of a massive polar vortex freeze. and on top of that, i kinda have "trauma" i guess you could call it from the TSA, as they falsely flagged me for having a bomb once when i was a child (it was a fucking polaroid camera.) but i bit the bullet and decided to be adventurous... and it was so much more fun than i anticipated!!!!!

at the early hour of 6:00 AM, i begrudgingly got up, packed my carry-on bag, and headed to the airport. you know, it was as if god himself was trying to keep us on that flight! it was CHAOS. we arrived late due to terrible traffic, BUT our flight magically delayed when we arrived. next, my brother parked the car on the POLAR OPPOSITE side of the INTERNATIONAL airport, so... we had to get our steps in. that was a FUCKTON of walking. after 10000 miles, we finally reached our destination.

oh god... TSA time.

aaand... THEY WERE NORMAL HUMAN BEINGS TO ME! they were not scary and it was a piece of cake! i swear, 99% of my trip anxieties were just from the fucking TSA alone. once i got through that, i was so peaceful. they need to make the TSA more autism friendly. it's really unfair.

but you wanna know something funny? my dad's license EXPIRED. AND ONLY A FEW DAYS AGO! how he was allowed on both flights, i will never know. it's a miracle he was able to come with. once we got on the airport, i chilled and watched the beautiful, beautiful clouds go by. then i started reading the stormlight archive (book 1), as my boyfriend gave me the book and highly recommended it. i liked what i read so far! in no time, we landed to my kind of town... chicago!

i step out of the airport, rapidly buttoning my three pairs of heavy jackets and putting on my gloves, imagining the coldest gust of wind i ever had the displeasure of feeling punch me in the face... to no avail.

it was actually pretty fuckin' sweet!!!!!!!

sure, it was a tad nippy, but honestly i was able to live. i overestimated how cold it'd be. the polar vortex must have left the day of, THANK GOD. that means i get to actually enjoy this trip! we drive to our hotel location, passing by some really cool graffiti and massive skyscrapers. the more we drove around, the more i found myself... liking my surroundings. WHAT!! ME of all people liking a CONCRETE JUNGLE?! i guess it's more likely than you'd think! i dunno man, just something about the talented graffiti, the pretty brick and stone houses surrounding the city, and the giant culture melting pot, that was really cool! each street has like its own dedicated culture, i saw a street that had mexican restaurants on the left and polish stores on the right! it's so cool to me how many different cultures all fit in this town! weirdly enough, this capitalism hellhole felt like it had a lot of ...soul to it. it makes sense. it's a city from the 1800s. my nearest city at home was popularized in the 60s and 70s, that's why it feels so puny and soulless compared to chicago, probably.

i had a gorgeous hotel room, where the windows showed the entire chicago skyline!!! the beds were cozier than my own bed, too. we walked around, and everything was super foggy and liminal, but it was honestly weirdly cozy. all in all it was a banger trip, 11/10.

i was gonna write more but got lazy bc a lot of what i was gonna write was redundant anywayz #lolz

oh yeah i got into depeche mode and they go so hard..
