lyfts and dreams

last night, my lyft driver asked me to play a song off of my favorite album (transatlanticism, obviously.) he said it was nice and relaxing--i was just glad he didn't hate it.

i had just come from band practice, so i had my guitar and amp with me. it was pretty hard to miss, so he asked all sorts of things, leading up to me playing what my band had just recorded that day, somehow. it was extremely demo-y. extremely unpolished. extremely... not extreme. yet, throughout the entire song... i can't even describe just how excited he was over it; it caught me way off guard. he even asked to follow us on instagram immediately after. lol.

he asked who the vocalist was, and upon answering that it was myself, he was super shocked. i guess he really liked my singing... but it wouldn't have sounded as good if not for my members playing their cool little instruments. however, i think what stood out the most to me from that drive was when he randomly asked me,

"what is your dream?"

i immediately answered with a weak, "oh, band stuff, i guess..."

he just smiled and told me to "follow that."

i know it's a generic cheesy phrase, but... i could tell that, for some reason, this random stranger genuinely, really believed in me after hearing a barely cobbled together demo.

it's as if every time i start doubting myself, something like this happens; i'm not sure if i should be taking that as a sign, or plain delusion. i guess i'll have to find out.

P.S. since the last time i've posted to this site, lots of things have happened within the band. we have a name, now--bituin wÜnders (sometimes i love it, other times i hate it.) i also made us a website:

bituinwunders.neocities.org

we don't have any music online, yet... but hopefully soon. after all, we'll be playing our first show in may (and my first show ever. i hope i don't throw up.)
