My experience with text-based roleplaying

Why text-based RP is one of the most freeing experiences

I write this under the pretense that most, if not all, of the people reading it have already participated in some way with text based roleplay. This is a community with close ties to it, after all. With that being said,

If you are unaware, text based roleplay is a lot like a mix between a book and a D&D campaign. You play as a character (or multiple, for you adventurous lot like myself), and you write our and explain your actions, whilst other people explain theirs. This is typically in a format such as the one below (thought typically more literate)

--------------------------------

"Are you doing okay?" *Jack would say as he put his hand on Jill's shoulder*

and your partner may reply with

"I've been better, sadly." *Jill said as her eyes darkened.*

--------------------------------

In truth, this may be one of the simplest, yet most exciting, forms of media consumption and writing ever. You gain the benefit of a more simplistic writing approach while still getting full stories, and you include a wide range of perspectives from all across the world!

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure what my intention when writing this post, but if you get anything out of it, at least try out text-based roleplay. On the off chance you haven't done it, head to a forum, discord server, or subreddit and see if you can try it out! Many won't be mistaken if you get the right people.

And trust me, the right people DO exist! One of my best friends is a roleplayer I met, we've been dear friends for 4 years, and I have even met my fiance of 8 months through roleplay as well :3

Stay creative! If you have any similar experiences with RP, or even any bad ones, comment and lemme know :)
