can u be mad abt things u don't advocate for

haiii all :3 i'm still trying to figure out my profile so don't mind that ... but lately i have been PLAUGED with this question, do you have the right to be mad about things that you don't have the will to advocate for?

mostly in reference to the current discussion (buzzword throwing) of third spaces and how they're disappearing. the most i hear about it is from millennials, but they don't seem to realize that they're adults with voting power and voices in their communities. i hear them saying how upsetting it is that they have nowhere to GO, yet they never want to do things that make them uncomfortable. the same could be said for people my age though.

people of all ages are so mad at the lack of library attendance, and yet no one has taken the plunge to go to the library because it's easier to just grab pdfs online, or because they'd rather spend $30 on a brand new book that they won't even read because they got it for the cover.

i don't really see people actually talking about HOW third spaces are changing, just that they're being taken away. no, people more so talk about how they personally wish there were more third spaces. i don't really think that's true, if the general consensus was that we need more parks and cheap activities, then we would probably have them. i think what people really want is the will to be social. they're indulging in a fantasy of a wonderous place that brings them to be social, and then get mad that it's being taken away.

i understand how it's a government issue too, capitalist greed causes everywhere people go to be consumer based. if a space doesn't make profit then it doesn't deserve to exist, and the more we enforce that idea, the more it applies to people as well.

i think a lot of people just want to feel right. like, it's easy to see that the objectively bad thing to do for any community is to destroy the places where it thrives outside of the peoples homes, so that's the opinion that everyone holds. when it comes down to it though, people turn a blind eye to a public pool being filled with concrete because they'd rather have a private one in their backyards.

despite all this, i DO NOT think that not protesting or making a court case for things you're passionate about means that you're not passionate about them. complete non action is different than a lack of action due to lack of resource or being able to do those things safely. i DO think it's worth asking yourself whether you really hold the opinions you hold, or you just don't want to be wrong.

i'm not above this either, that's HOW i came to this conclusion. obviously i'm wrapped up in my own personal interest, i'm not involved with my community, i would rather do things that are comfortable for me than things that are good for everyone but take things away from me. the difference is between my socially taught greed and my love for humanity, i would RATHER do things that are comfortable, but i'm willing to be uncomfortable if it helps people, i'm willing to have uncomfortable conversations.

i dunno though!
