Cosplay Plans/Construction

Im working on two cosplays currently but my focus is mainly on one, since I am making many aspects of it myself.

Nanami- Kamisama Kiss

Koujaku- dmmd

Nanami currently is nearly entirely completed excuse the obi I plan to sew for her. I am also likely going to be making a han-eri for her, since I didn’t want to make/buy a full juban. Little has to be done for her wig. As it stands the to do list for her is only:

>buy sandles/geta

>make tabi

>make obi

>make han-eri

(As i finish aspects i will add a ✔️)

(i may also make future posts compiling both progress pictures and finished pieces. Im on the fence about posting cosplay pictures on here, but we will see)

Koujaku, is where I am having more trouble.

Now, a cosplay for him typically… is able to be bought online without much issue, but personally for my cosplays I nearly always prefer a handmade or cultivated and modified cosplay! Nearly all of my cosplays I buy secondhand/thrifted material/clothes and adjust, or I just sew from scratch. I aim for my cosplays to look less of a replica, and more of how the character would look if they truly existed and were “lived in”. Including details like for example… a chained pocket watch, or a certain type of fabric I think the character may prefer. An example for Koujaku is his obigime and the specific type of collar he wears, that being a posture collar-

But I digress.

When making a cosplay like this- He is certainly a more ambitious project,

A kimono wasn’t too hard to find that resembled his, surprisingly, or perhaps unsurprisingly- being a character that is more or less traditionally dressed. There were many options for red ombre kimonos from a traditional source.

The thing that has intimidated me the most for him is the leather working. I’ll be having to design, pattern, and sew all parts, not to mention install the hardware. Ive never tried my hand at it just yet. I am excited with the concept sketches I have so far though.

The to do list for Koujaku is as follows:

>make obi (fabric around waist of kimono)✔️

>construct obijime and obidome (rope around obi)✔️

>make leather collar✔️

>make leather arm warmers

>make whatever is going on with his shoes

>leather back attachments for obijime(➰)

>make kanzashi (hair stick)✔️

-dye kimono

…I have a lot of my plate. The plan for tonight is going to be focusing on pattern making.

Wish me luck.. Im going to make a tea and work for a few hours.

The visual novel unironically has an amazing story that delves into trauma, dissociative identity disorder, late stage capitalism, human experimentation, and the genocide of native people. At its core I think its such an interesting story, its definitely simplified in a lot of peoples eyes because… well you know.
