my personal favourite cultural moments from my time in the dsmp fandom

before this list begins, i don’t associate myself with this fandom anymore and i do not support any controversial or questionable things any of the creators have done/said! i have a hyperfixation on wilbur and his characters, music, etc. i’m also a fictionkin of his character on the smp. now all of that’s been said, let’s start the list:)

ALSO I DO NOT TOLERATE ANY KIND OF CRINGE CULTURE! i look back on these with nostalgia and humour, i will not take criticism from the viewpoint of cringe culture, instead focus on having valid criticisms of weird things the fandom has done.

“you’ve ruined green and blue for me”

— this was the period of time i believe around 2021-2022 when a bunch of dnf haters made videos with the song ‘Blah Blah Blah’ by The Oozes, specifically using the part that goes ‘you’ve ruined the colour blue for me!’. some people had understandable criticisms like the dnf fans seeing the flag of sierra leone and saying it was ‘the dnf flag’, but overall the reactions were a bit stupid.

the dnf shirt incident

— at vidcon 2023 there was a ‘dream smp reunion’ panel (even though half the people who basically carried all the lore just weren’t there but whatever) where they took questions from the audience. one person had the mic and asked ‘do you guys like my shirt?’ and stood up. i’m not describing the shirt, but it was very uncomfortable for all the people on stage! if you want to see the shirt, search up ‘dnf vidcon shirt’.

the ‘dawn of the 16th’ sad-ist animation

— sad-ist, now i believe famously a stanley parable artist, got very popular making dream smp lore animations to songs by 2wei. they basically carried the entire animation community in the early months of the fandom, and basically every cc who regularly played on the server has seen every animatic they made. i’d recommend watching them if you aren’t absolutely repulsed by the concept of the smp (if you are.. why are you reading this?)

revived by derivakat

— derivakat famously made alot of songs based off the smp, even basically two albums (“songs of the smp” and “records of the smp”). revived is a song based off of wilbur soots character after his character revival (since he died and was a ghost for a little while), though it’s vaguely out of character, i doubt any person in the fandom hasn’t heard it before. wilbur himself has noted he is a big fan of the song.

“you are a walking second place medal” (alien blues)

— this is a popular tiktok audio from the written script of what was supposed to be wilbur soots lore after revival on the server, having to be scrapped due to complications with other characters on the server. the script was posted on ao3, and is still up to this date (“The Wilbur Van” by SootWilbur). after the posting of this work, wilbur streamed him reading it. somebody took a clip from this stream with wilbur’s voice acting and overlayed Alien Blues by Vundabar over it. this eventually became a very popular audio and will probably be in dsmp fandom history forever. it is said to also have made it out of dsmptok.

“DID YOU JUST CALL ME MULLET DADDY??”

— mullet daddy was a tiktok audio from an edit either made before or shortly after quackity joined the smp. it made it into ‘straight tiktok’ at the time, a bunch of random dudes always making thirst traps to it. it is said that a lot of people were getting mad at dsmp fans for saying that it came from quackity/a mcyter. this is unconfirmed, as i genuinely believe it just didn’t happen.
