¿is a two boys couple a product? The answer is obvious but not for everyone...
Hey! This is my very first entry, the goal of this blog is to criticize the incredible popular bl stories that are mostly consumed by young girls and make gay relatioships artificial product and sometimes It also sexualices them. If your are an straigh BL author don’t worry. The goal of this blog is to help improving how this topic is threaten, so keep reading!
We all agree that the thing that we enjoy the most on romance novels is to relate to the characters, their feelings, their insecurities, their likes, goals… Well as a young gay thats why I read Bl, the thing that annoys me is that the most part of this type of romance novels present stupid stereotypes (one hyper femenine boy, and a hyper masculine daddy man), were they both have 0 insecurities, they know their place (if you know what i mean) they never ask the other what they like… And for now I’m not gonna talk about the coming out scenes because OMG…
In conclusion I feel like we are threaten like a product to people to enjoy and to shout in the cute moments, I get why y’all love BL stories but this is not the reality and its creating dangerous ideas and stereotypes towars the community that we should avoid (Same happens with lesbian’s videos, but thats kinda creepier)
So a BL story where boys can relate and people can shout and enjoy the romance without sexualizing the community be written? These are my advices:
Avoid stereotypes
You have probably read many Bl where the two boys are very different from each other and they know their place from the beginning; but my dear writter/artist that’s not what actually happens. Yeah It’s true sometimes people are a little to secure about that topic but you probably are looking for characters that act like sensible humans.
So no, Don’t do the b0tt0m and t0p thing, something cool that I’ve never seen in stories that include this kind of scenes is the characters asking each other what they like, what they wanna do. Communication is so important, specially in s3x.
Also please avoid “the girl and the boy in the relationship” A gay couple is form by two boys, you can make one more “manly” and one more “weak” but please avoid the cute little bean and the dangerous daddy.
A good trick is too pick two straigh romance books/films and to imagine the two boys dating each other with their personalty. Imagine Romeo and Jack Dawnson being boyfriends.
Avoid pervert jokes unless you hear them from a boy
Something that I really hate is that d cringe jokes that this stories conteing. The authors try to be more “realistic” trying to imitate boys behaviur and making cringe jokes that are even cringier than the originals. If you want to make a Bl storie you should have male friends, and if you want to make a “perv3rt character” please try to base what he say on a real life person.
This point is kinda personal Its not as important as the others.
The Pain after…
This is real, ok but why people write characters that actually cries and hurts while doing it. Yeah first time It’s not easy but at the end of the day you do it for fun and pleasure not for being hurt. You guys really think we like to hurt eachothers? Something cool would be if a character is being hurt by the other, the other will stop and ask him if he’s ok. You know communication.
We are not always thinking about doing hot things
A thing that I see a lot on this type of novels is that the boys are always thinking about f98k, sometimes they even avoid the initial dates, the love chats, and the flirting thing just because the author is to jorny to write that parts. Ok I admit this happens more that I wish it would but… You known you are more jorny than us consuming that type of scenes every two paragraphs.
If you want to write about coming out, homophobic family, friends and hard situations for your cute characters
Read about it!! Heartstopper is a good example of a coming out in a rich and advanced country, if you are from the uk or your stories happens there you can bass it on the Alice’s novel (love her), but if your story if from other country were the lgtb situation is not that good I highly recommend you to watch videos of people from there talking about their experience.
Personally I still in the closet, having to come out is something that makes me feel anxious, my sexuality should not be a problem for anybody bu I know when I tell them the truth they will look at me with different eyes and you know thats not a cool thing… The feeling of being different and not being accepcted is a very hard feeling to understand if you havent felt it. These topic should not exits, but make us suffer a lot so these scene must have a work behind it. And for the homophobic attacks, it depends on what level they are but normally they generate a trauma, in that case that experience should be on your character mind all the novel.
Some good Bl webtoons that have very good coming out scenes: Stare down, Les Normaux, Day Break, Type-Blind, Encore!, Post harbor, Jackson’s diary…
In conclusion
We all love two boys being in love, but It’s easy to follow stereotypes. A relationship between boys It’s not a fetishe, we are normal humans that just don’t love the gender we should (for the society). A person’s s3xuality should never change their personality and never define them, my sexuality for my online friends is as important as my favorite food.
Enjoy and have fun with your love-birds!
