DISCOVERING YOUR PERSONAL STYLE ☆:*☆

With all the TikTok trends, you might need help figuring out how you want to present yourself.

Are you a clean girl, or do you have a Y2K Acubi style? Maybe grunge or fairycore! Well, if you're tired of all those labels and want to figure yourself out, I can help with that ( •̀ ω •́ )y

Fashion and style are essential in our society; it's how you express yourself and the first thing someone sees when they meet you, so you may be concerned with "looking weird" or "out of place". All I can say is FORGET ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE. Dress for yourself.

Step 1: What you already have ☆⌒(*^-゜)v

Most young people these days have clothing they don't like anymore but were bought on impulse because it was a trend, or more accurately, a "micro-trend."

Look into your closet and choose what you still wear, what doesn't fit anymore, and what you will never wear again. Separate your clothing by these categories to make it easier to define your current style.

Keep what you still wear and get rid of the rest. Do not throw away clothing; donate it to your local church, homeless shelter or thrift store.

Step 2: Labels are important, but... !(* ̄( ̄ *)

Defining who you are or your style is essential; that makes it a million times easier to look up what you like. However, I've noticed that, specifically on social media, these labels are narrowed down to particular things.

For example, when you think of Y2k, the images of low-rise jeans, tight-fitting shirts, and stars come to mind. In reality, the Y2K fashion movement is much more than that.

My advice: Look into the styles that grab your attention; don't just go and take the TikTok definition dig a bit deeper!

Step 3: Avoid Fast Fashion ┗|`O′|┛

Fast fashion is when big companies grab the latest trends and mass-produce bad-quality clothing that will go out of fashion within a few months.

I'm going to skip over fast fashion's damage to our ecosystem and focus on the social aspect of it. Following every trend that pops up can be damaging to your mental health.

The constant need to be up to date with the trendy stuff will end up destroying the way you perceive yourself. You don't need most things that go viral; please reflect on yourself and define what you want.

Brands like Shein or Romwe are the main reason this is happening. They sell trendy clothing for low prices, but most are of horrible quality.

I'm not saying you can't buy from these brands; you can. I have done it, and it is inevitably more accessible. But the issue starts when your entire wardrobe is from Shein...

Step 4: Actually get clothes you like.

Okay! Now that you have gotten rid of the clothes you don't wear anymore, you've researched your style of preference and reflected upon your shopping ethics; it's time to get a new style.

Search for inspo, know where in your area your style is easier to find and have fun!

Stay true to yourself, and don't let anyone bring you down or insult you based on your clothing preferences; that's ridiculous.

Choose things you know you'll use for a long time, pick out versatile clothing and always keep in mind that at the end of the day... it's just clothes.
