music I listened to jan 14-21

So I said on bulletins that I was gonna start doing more blog posts about the music i’m listening to, and so if u think this is cool let me know cause this is fun and I like talking about music.

I have a ton of music i want to listen to this year so I’m trying to make a dent.

If you want a new (small) fem chicago band, check out lavender point.

All for you by lavender point is the band's first (and only) EP. released in 2022, the barely 10 minute EP is something I haven’t heard before. The group describes themselves as “softball emo from chicago”, and in my opinion have a sound that feels both familiar and completely their own. Vocally I'm reminded of Park Ave (only SLIGHTLY) but they also have that “homemade” feel that I love with bands.

My favorite tracks: Quicksilver and Saturday. (Saturday is awesome and I can’t stop listening to it.)

Songs for Sadness by palaye royale is their second EP released in 6 weeks, and is significantly better than their EP, “Sextape”. But then again, most things are. While being a step above “sextape”, it still isn’t great. Lyrically I don’t feel it’s my place to comment since it’s their life they’re describing and Remington is detailing his experience growing up. I just feel like this was the better EP musically. Even that doesn’t say much though.

Honestly, I feel like if you’re putting out 2 EP’s so close together you have to be ready for a LITTLE comparison. And I get it the vibes of both are very different and could not have been put together for a full length record in any capacity, but I would argue that 1 incredible full length project is better than 2 mediocre bodies of work.

My favorite tracks: hello sunshine and be here

Cash only by millionaires I did listen to in case I see them at When We Were Young. They aren’t on my list but if I need to kill time might as well see them ya know? I think Cash Only to me feels nostalgic purely based off the time it was made and how Millionaires gained their popularity. I’m just a sucker for 2008 scenecore. I get why people like Millionaires, and why she was so iconic, and it was a nice break from the depressing heavy shit I was listening to. A nice set of tracks I could absolutely see myself turning on if I needed to feel like a girly-girl.

My favorite tracks: Alcohol (duh), party like a millionaire and prom dress!

Other tracks I’ve listened to this week that you should check out:

Jesus Christ Stop Yelling I’m Right Here by SCAM LIKELY (another chi band)

Kills Me To Be Kind by Crawlers

Home Again by Lucy Dacus

Sofia I’m Sorry by Jesse Detor

Janice by Toxic Fem

If you check any out LMK !!! Also give me 1 song to listen to :)
