Journal Entry #91: 01/20/24 - It's Frigid!

I guess I had a good week. Despite the strong weather, I don't have any strong feelings.

Last Saturday night I went with a friend to this on-campus food court. Although it's on campus, I tend to forget about it. It's somewhat more expensive as the food is freshly made and of higher quality. I spent $15 on some tacos! They were good though. I may go back later to get some crepes, as that storefront is new. 

Sunday was also pretty lax; I mostly did chores. There wasn't much to do on Sunday as most places were closed for the upcoming holiday. On Monday I of course had the day off. I decided to get some groceries at Publix, which was bustling. Tuesday was unbelievably cold. People were expecting it to snow, but no snow came. Unfortunately, I have an 8am on Tuesday so I had to brave the weather. I also met up with this person I met over Discord during a CompSci lecture. They were late so we weren't able to talk much. 

Wednesday was also super cold. There's not much else to say about it lol. On Thursday I went to ACM's Kickoff event for our university. I met a fellow Comp classmate and talked with her. I told myself I wanted to make friends, and what do you know? I'm making connections! I wouldn't call these people friends quite yet though. Friday was quite relaxed; I met with a distant friend for lunch and chatted a little before attempting to finish my work (spoiler alert: I didn't finish it). 

While I was at the library, I was approached by a man who said I was cute and asked me for my number. ...What? Did the guy just step out of the 90s or something? Who tries to pick up girls in a library on a Friday night? Besides, I know no girl would just give her number out to a stranger. It was just so confusing, and I know I was looking disheveled. However, no guy friend was trailing behind him, so I guess he was being genuine. 

Okay, time to change the subject. I tried something new in terms of fashion this week: tights under shorts! It's a cool combo and I like it. I can't believe I hadn't thought of this earlier. Apparently, this combo is associated with punk styles, but I think that goes for fishnets, and I was just wearing opaque tights. Since my birthday is coming up, I decided to buy myself a few things. I got some silver star hoop earrings that will be arriving on Wednesday. I also bought this belt with a star-shaped buckle along with a pleated jean miniskirt from Hot Topic. One thing I try to do while shopping is ensure that the items that I buy work with current items in my wardrobe. I can't wait to wear it all.

So, the first full week of classes starts soon! Unfortunately, I don't like that we had a day off so early in the semester. I won't get a break until Spring Break! I'm surprised that everything has started back so quickly; it feels like things took a while to start up during the fall. Maybe that's because I was on campus a week or so early... One thing I kept explaining to people this week was how disappointed I am with my Cal II class. The recitation and lecture sections are not in sync, I can't see the board in recitation, and the homework uses differing methods from what we're taught. Hopefully, I can clear things up for myself tomorrow.

As for the weather, it's going to warm up. The temperatures won't be unseasonably warm, but they will appear to be since we've been in a deep freeze. Then we should be back to typical temperatures for winter in Alabama.
