We owe punk rock to poor, black people.

The Ramones are often described as the first true punk band, popularizing the punk movement in the United States. But what came before them? Punk is a subgenre of Rock And Roll, which is said to be invented by Chuck Berry in the early 1950s and the foundations of it by Robert Johnson around 1930. Black people invented the genre.

Punk rock itself emerged in the mid-1970's as a countercultural movement that shook the foundations of the music industry and societal norms. It provided an outlet for self-expression and rebellion, giving voice to the dissatisfaction and disillusionment prevalent among the youth of the time. To understand the birth of Punk rock, we have to first examine the socio-political climate of the 1970s.

The world was undergoing significant changes, with a sense of discontent and disillusionment prevailing among the younger generation. Punk rock emerged as a direct response to this dissatisfaction, offering an alternative to the mainstream music industry and providing a platform for self-expression and rebellion.

Now, while I agree that The Ramones were the first capital P punk band, I believe it's unfair to give them full credit for the creation of the subgenre. Groups like Death, Pure Hell, X-Ray Spex, and Bad Brains not only helped define the Punk sound, but paved the way for today's modern POC bands to flourish.

I've seen a lot of people arguing about this, so I wanted to throw my own opinion in the ring. While there are disagreements on who started Punk rock, who started Rock And Roll (the very foundation of Punk) is crystal clear.
