shadow falls - c.c. hunters magnum opus

Transparent White Star

i was actually introduced 2 this series in 7th or 8th grade by my best friend at the time. she let me borrow her copies over the summer along with ‘heroes of olympus’. lauren, if you ever read this, thank you so much cause i bought every single one. kinda. it took a while.

i was in a bit of a pick me phase back then, i judged anyone that liked those "weird" supernatural romances. i love them now. deeply. originally, the only reason i reread this series is because it was on sale and i felt like hate-reading.

usually i pick up a series i hated when i was younger, books i hate based on the summary, or sometimes i pick out books that people hate 2 see what i think of them. sometimes i love them, sometimes i hate them in a fun way, sometimes i hate them in a bad way.

shadow falls was definitely a series that i ended up liking more as an adult, i definitely don't hate it, and i recommend it 2 people interested in that genre, but i definitely see it has campy and silly and not really a serious piece of media. tho it had potential.

it has its problematic scenes, sure, but almost all early 2000’s works were a little off in that way. i’ve been meaning 2 read more of c.c. 's works since then, and i really like her writing. i believe she writes about a lot of different supernatural creatures under the c.c. hunter pen name. under her real name, christie craige, she also writes more adult romantic suspense. They look …. interesting…

i am unsure if they are erotica or just mom romances, but either way, get that bag sis.

Anyways, so i was rereading shadow falls, and the more i read the more i kinda wanted 2 share my thoughts. (thats what this is 4 lol) funnily enough, i didn’t hate the books as much as i did when i was a kid. i didn’t even make it through the first book back then. but the parts i did read, i didn’t remember at all. hence the reread.

i ultimately adore the series, i really do. sure it has its moments but i think most early 2000’s YA books do.

cons of this book? Slut shaming , purity culture , minor homophobia , mocking of native american culture , racism(?) between species , forced sterilization* , literal CIA testing* , EUGENICS* , murder , SA , cheating , love triangle , miscommunication trope.

i do think if this series was written more maturely it could have been a good analogy for classism and how society fears what they cant explain. Unfortunately, it fell in2 twilight territory of badness.

i like twilight btw, but its no war and peace.

this is a series i find myself reccing 2 more adults/people around my age just cause the topics are kinda covered poorly, but it is made for teens so its up 2 u.

it takes place in a summer camp for "problem kids" but that's just the cover. duh. if u've read it, let me know what u think!!! if u're interested in reading it, i really hope u end up liking it, but if u don't, that's completely understandable.

I CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT THE SUPERNATURAL SECT OF THE CIA DOES FUCKED UP SHIT ! THIS SERIES IS WRITTEN BY A CISHET WHITE WOMAN ! SHE DOESNT EXACTLY HANDLE THESE TOPICS CORRECTLY !

* these are not done 2 any particular HUMAN race, but its done specifically 2 a specific species of supernatural. the series DOES villainize this behavior, it is never shown in a positive light.
