Akatsuki no yona ˚ ✦ . . ˚ . . ✦ ˚ . ★⋆.
I need somewhere to write my opinions and rants about the animes i watch :') and i'll do it here!
If you have any interest in checking, in my profile you can find my letterboxd with my movies reviews too <3
WARNING: contain MAJOR spoilers of the drama.
The story
The story itself happens a loooong time ago, obviously in Japan, when there was kings, queens and allat.
To summarize: Yona is the princess of a big empire, she´s chilldhood-bestfriends with her bodyguard Son Hak and with her cousin, Soo Won, and she's the daughter of a kind king, a little bit too kind, to the point where people take him as a fool and a coward due to his mercy towards everyone.
Yona is completely in love with Soo Won, and plans to get married with him, until she sees her loved one killing her own father, causing to her and Hak to leave the empire to protect themselves.
Yona finds out that she's the carrier of the Red Dragon's blood, an entity that was responsible to raise her stolen kingdom a long time ago, and, following the myth, she goes on a journey with Hak to find the 4 other dragons, who are supposed to protect and devote their lifes to their master (Red Dragon's blood carrier, her).
Review
OK SO.......
I kinda love this??
the anime and the mangá have an amazingly pretty art style, a pretty OST and the story is kinda unique ?
There's one specific OST that genuinely makes me cry whenever i hear it, its sooo good !
this one tho: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4Qm2ChrDsg
And Yona isn't a weak, fragile or shy protagonist. We can find those steriotypes in women MC's in mangas, but here, she recognizes she's weak, she recognizes that her father's reign has caused alot of damage and she's willing to learn.
She gets progressively stronger, physically and meantlly, as the animes goes on, and we feel kinda proudful to see a spoiled princess slowly blooming into a strong and devoted woman, fighting for herself, her country and her loved ones.
Yona goes through a LOT, from hunger to infiltrating herself in a human-trafficking ship to rescue the women in there.
We see her struggle to find confindence, to learn how to use weapons, and to grief for her father. And that beautiful.
But, the romance.. AGHHHH
Hak loves her, hes totally devoted to her, protecting and taking care of her, risking his very much own life many times, and unfortunely, in the anime, she doesn't recogznies it.
Sure, she's thankfull and she's happy to have him around, and her biggest wish is to be strong enough to "set him free" (ffs) from her, but unfurtunelly she doesn't see him as a lover, YET.
in the manga, im sure something will happen heh
Overall
Overall, i liked the experience, veryyyy pretty and comfy, mixed feelings (in a good way) and a nice ending. 9/10.
thank you for reading :)) Xoxo
