Ilana

Tall and elegant
steadfast and tenacious
she wears her emerald attire
so dignified and gracious
shimmering resplendent,
draped in her finery of
diamond encrusted jewels
sparkling at first light
from early morn's dew.
Gently she sways to
the music of the forest
in ruffled whistling breezes,
as wild life forages...
Arms reaching to the skies
adorning birds she entices.
A leafy shelter in summer's heat
and autumn's gentle rain
Many moons have waxed and waned,
endured all seasons in eras of change.
From sapling to old ancient
if only she could speak, Ilana
what tales she would tell,
secrets of the past, lay hidden
never to compel.

Ilana (prounounced i-LA-nuh)
A Hebrew name meaning 'tree'
in Jewish culture it's traditionally given to girls born around Tu B Shevat,
a holiday in celebration of trees, that usually falls towards the end of January.
