Recently there's been this trend on tiktok where people are making "Infection AUs" for the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. An Infection AU is basically when one pony gets sick with some strange disease that mutates them beyond recognition, and spreads it to other ponies. It sounds gruesome (and is) but the artwork that has come out of it is just really cool in my opinion.
It reminds me a lot of when people would make MLP Creepypastas! One of my favorites that always creeped me out was My Little Amnesia and the Rainbow Factory. I was so obsessed with the last one, I used to love the lore of it and everything (and it's probably why I love evil doctor characters today lol)
My only gripes with these MLP Infection AUs is how they always do Applejack and Rarity dirty in them! Applejack either dies first, or ends up mutated trying to help some other pony, or her sister is missing etc. And Rarity is almost always the "start" of the infection somehow, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I just feel like Rarity has this ten step hygiene routine that makes it impossible for any germ to stay on her for more than like a second, and Applejack is super strong that I can't imagine some mutated pony just taking her down.
The ones with a mutated Rainbowdash are horrifying because the creators really make her look just downright creepy, and Pinkiepie is obviously at the core of a lot of these where she's either the first to mutate, the cause of it in the first place, or she's the only one to survive.
If you're interested in reading some of these Infection AUs yourself, search up "Pestrophobia" on Tiktok, it was the first kind of Infection AU that was made that really kickstarted this whole thing. It's been so fun seeing what kinds of stories people make up lol, really brings me back to my MLP days as a kid!

I love the mlp infection AUs on tiktok so much! I've started to see them on instagram too. It feels like as if the creepypasta community is making a revival and I'm living for it. I agree with seeing a lot of versions where Rarity ends up being infected first, but I haven't seen any with Applejack so much. For me it's usually Fluttershy who gets infected first. Maybe it just depends on what content the algorithm gives you. I feel inspired to make my own mlp ocs based on this.

ive been seing these ALL over my twitter aswelll!!! i like the ones that use pinkie's pinkie sense!! such as some having her generally staying more safe or even having predicted the infection as a whole :D

i also love MLP infection AU trend it relives my childhood like smile HD and rainbow factory but some AUs are straight up disturbing especially the flurry heart stew like whaat
and other AUs are just jokes and i live up for it
