The house

Last night I had a dream about this house I used to live in. I stood there in the dark, I couldn’t move, I could only watch.

I have always associated that house with bad stuff to be honest. Back when I was a kid, me and my family moved houses almost every two months. We were at a new house and the layout was weird, the living was almost like a long hallway and all of the rooms were clustered at the end. The kitchen was also like a room and it had a door to outside that took you to a hallway that led back to the backyard. The house came with a lot of mirrors that were glued on so we just didn’t touch them.

My aunt lived with us at the time and would stay at home with me when my mom worked. I constantly remember them fighting often claiming that each called out for each other and was pretending they didn’t. This happened often, both stood their ground saying they never called for the other. I had been in both sides, I heard my mom being called by my aunt. I also heard my mom being called by my aunt. But I had also been by my mom’s side when my aunt claimed she called her. This was annoying, but nonetheless didn’t think much of it. The arguing soon stopped. There was a time they both were together and heard their names being called out. Being very religious, this was already a bad sign.

We all also had constant sleep paralysis, my mom said she could hear a guy playing a song in a guitar, then she could feel a woman almost choking her. My aunt would dream about being it the backyard feeling something was there but not being able to move nor scream. I had nightmares that would wake me up at night often. But this was where my sleep paralysis began. I wasn’t able to move and I was just alone in the darkness of my room with the door slightly opened. I always felt someone was behind that door waiting for the right time to come in, or that something hid in the darkness of my room. Everyone just called it off as being the anxiety of the new house.

I thought it was all funny, watching my mom and my aunt panic about these things. However, I remember two incidents that made me stop laughing.

First,I remember I was allowed to turn off the stove (for some reason I had always wanted to do that) I turned it off and my mom checked it. I had always paid attention at how to turn it off, training for this moment. I felt so happy that I had just done a ‘big kid’ thing. Later on however my aunt said it smelled like gas. We checked again and the gas was on without the fire. That could have easily have gone wrong. Me and my mom were 100% sure I had turned it off, my mom had even turned the little knob til it was locked. The door to the kitchen was open but the metal door was locked, so no one else could have done it. We thought it was creepy, but again maybe it was us. So we just moved on to normal.

Then, this is the one that makes my mind trip out. I remember my mom telling me to go ask my aunt something, so I began slowly following my aunt behind through the living room/hall way. I was waiting for her to stop so I could talk to her, but she looked different from the back. My aunt was a bit of a tomboy, but this time she felt more masculine. Her clothing wasn’t her usual bright red hoodie and her shoes were brown leathered. As I walked behind her and stared at the shoes, I heard talking, when I turned I saw my mom and aunt talking. When I looked back there was no one. It’s scary to think I was following something that wasn’t there. I looked to my side and noticed I was standing right next to the mirror. It gave me the chills.

After so many incidents like those, as well as things moving and disappearing. We decided to ask our pastor for help, he told us to do a cleanse around the house. We had gotten a lot of holy water and were told which verse to recite.

This is the only reason why I believe in spirits. Even if I heard and saw something move out of random, I always had tried to debunk it. But I just can’t process how the following happened.

My aunt and my mom were in charged of the holy water and I was in charge of reading. We started from the back and slowly moved forward. Nothing had happened so I felt calm, I thought it was funny and out of a horror movie how we were doing an ‘exorcise’ of sorts. As we had approached the front door, the vibe completely changed. The porch and front lights in front of us began flickering like crazy. I could barely read the verse with the lights turning off and on. It was very mind blowing for me as a kid. I had seen the horror movies was aunt watched and this wasnt a good sign. So I did what any other kid would do. I sobbed. This was all too much in the moment, I don’t remember who but someone else read the verse, this kept happening until the lights stayed still and we had gone all the way to the door. We shut the door closed and cleansed outside. A week after we moved away.

XOXO,
