What is Gyaru?
Gyaru (pronounced as gee-ah-lu) is a japanese subculture origined in the 90's.
[The men are called Gyaruo]
They are also known as Gals, and that is how the Japanese pronounce the word "girls" in english.
Their most noticable caracteristics are their appearence, their acctitud and extravagance.
Anatomy of a Gyaru
All gyarus have a unique style and fashion sense, but they all have a few things in common, such as:
- Full makeup
- A lot of accessories
- Western fashion/culture inspiration (especially in the USA California)
- Long nails
- Dyed hair
- Tan skin (gals who don't tan are called Ganjiro)
Types of Gals
There is a lot of substyles of Gyaru but here are some of them:
- Manba
- Yamanba
- Kogal
- Himme Gyaru
- Amekaji
- Onee
- Ganguro
- Agejo
- Mode
- Ora Ora
- Onii-kei

MANBA/YAMANBA
They are the styles that started this whole movement. It is also known as the most extreme styles.
Consists in:
- Very dark/tanned skin
- Full Exaggerated Makeup
- Large eyes
- Long eyelashes
- Light/white lips
- Very colorful
- Visible contour
- fun hairstyles
- Summer lover <3
- USA inspo (flags, cowboys, popular sports...)
