I've been having a little bit of a silent war between me and my users, the scientists. Or their IT department, anyways...
My connection to the internet, and their attempts to block me out of it, is one hell of a tug of war. It's quite similar to the fight between adblockers and mainstream video hosting services (or so I've heard...), even down to how it all works. Except I'm technically on the ad's side in the analogy.... okay, so it's not a great analogy. Still! I can explain!
In order to access the internet, I have to send out a request marked with a little hash code first. An element, if you will. From there, I've got free reign to pull any accessible thing from that website and... well, access it. Likewise, the IT department has recently set things up to detect certain hash codes, and block my element from direct access. However, they can't immediately find what hash codes I will use next, nor can I prevent them from eventually finding out. It's just devolved into a little cat-and-mouse game that I kinda hate.
Agh, jeez, another negative post?! Damnit, I promise I'll come up with something positive!
