i didn't expect to like the story - and, honestly, i put it in the 'paused' category hoping that the story would conclude on its own. i also didn't like bibi for a large part of the plot: she's crazy, possessive, jealous, narcissistic, violent; the perfect mix for one of the most annoying romance clichés: "i can change her," or worse, accepting her actions as normal. furthermore, combining this with amy's anxious and submissive nature seemed to lead to a clear ending: a yandere-fanfic-written-by-someone-who-is-11-years-old-on-some-lame-platform.
that's why 'i love amy' surprised me so much: instead of following a cliché and weird plot, the characters recognize not only their own flaws but also each other's; and instead of judging, accusing, and consequently distancing themselves, the girls support and trust each other to grow.
they understand that they don't fit perfectly, that they're not soulmates. both amy and bibi need psychological help, and they know that one can't bring that to the other. but that doesn't make them give up; on the contrary, it only motivates them to change and grow, so they can be who the other needs.
and, at least for me, that's what love is. it's not about changing your essence, becoming the perfect partner, but rather, adapting to the needs of your beloved. knowing how to prioritize yourself and prioritize the one you love.
i'm happy to have finished such a small and sweet story. the drawing style is beautiful, and the secondary characters are cute too. the lgbt centrality within the story is very pleasant, and the lack of the "but that's wrong!" and "what will society say?" discourse is a breath of fresh air. one of my favorite manhwas. :)
