web browsing on Windows XP is...

(yay, another bulletin that i decided to make into a blog with some corrections)

weird.

you basically have two options - ancient Firefox (Pale Moon 28 builds by roytam1) or not so ancient Firefox (Mypal 68 by Feodor)

Pale Moon 28 acts up weird, sometimes crashes for no reason, but it is era appropriate and you can browse sites like SpaceHey no problem (that's exactly why i keep a Windows XP computer, to disconnect from modern web for a while time to time)

Mypal 68 is much, much more usable, but has one annoying quirk - it uses multiple processes by default, like any kinda modern browser. but Windows XP isn't modern. in fact, it is 20+ years old. so wen you open and close tabs, Windows XP may get confused by Mypal creating and killing processes at its whim and the whole system bluescreens, so you gotta disable that

and yeah, there's 360 Extreme, a chinese Chromium based browser, but it didn't work that well for me personally, and all others are terribly outdated and can't even load SpaceHey or YT2009 properly

and don't even think about Internet Explorer, max version you can go on Windows XP is Internet Explorer 8, and it doesn't even try loading most of SSL encrypted (HTTPS) pages
