I got my nipples done when I was in my early 20s. My drummer did it with some medieval piece of equipment he owned. The pain was awesome. I nearly passed out from it several times the next day at work - I never realized how many times a day I reached across my body to get stuff.
I loved having them done. It made me feel sexy. It was kind of my little secret sometimes, and it looked hot. Felt better having them licked too.
On the other hand, they were chronically infected.
I had them for about 7 years and then one evening I took them out to do some MMA and forgot to put them back in. By the next day they had healed enough that I couldn't get the rings back in, and that was the end of that.

Over all, I'd say it was totally worth it and I've considered getting them done again many times and probably will again at some point.
