Coldcut

I really loved the band Coldcut in my youth. Their 1997 album "Let Us Play" is a masterpiece of creative sampling and electronic freestyle. The album features great guests such as Jimpster, Professor Steinski, poet Salena Saliva, punk veteran Jello Biafra, tabla master Talvin Singh and producer Outer Bongolia.  The album contains many philosophical allusions to the socio-political situation of the time e.g. "Pan Opticon" and "Every Home A Prison" refer to the philosophies of Foucault and Fukuyama. "Music 4 No Musicians" is an eye roll to Steve Reich fans. "Pan Opticon" contains samples from street demonstrations. My favorite track on the album is "Timber." Brilliantly sampled sounds of a circular saw and Morse signal device beautifully mixed with the singing of an Amazonian Indian woman.
