Man, I forgot how engrossed I was with this show back in the mid-2010s. I watched a couple of episodes today and was enchanted by the documentary/reality television style that was being mashed up. I wish this show was created way into the streaming era, but then the suspenseful edits made for the commercial breaks will be all for nothing. The reality tv aspect of it would be lost if it ever started out on a streaming service. Then there's the mega-personality that ties it all together: Jackson Galaxy. Especially when he jumps around case-to-case with a literal guitar case, a nod to his previous profession as a musician. Although he doesn't look like a usual veterinarian, cat doctor, or psychologist, the real-world experience that he brings to the show is very insightful. The beginning of each case is the "very interesting" part of the episode. Because it is dissecting the animacy of the cat, and what they might be going through psychologically. However, the biggest drag to each episode are the update segments. As the issues are solved immediately, or are partially solved with a vast improvement from the first visit. Not to mention, the jumping from case to case which can trigger a commercial break at a whim. Another underrated segment of the show is the segments where a "Cat from Heaven" is presented to the audience. These include cats that work at veterinarian offices, libraries, and any other public service where cats are doing anything other than stereotypical cat behaviors. Personally, these segments are just as enjoyable as the introduction to any case. The hour-long runtime is a big negative, as the episode either runs over its allotted time, or ends too early and a big commercial block is aired. Reducing it down to a 22-minute runtime would make the audience more invested in individual stories, and if they end early, include one of those Heaven Cat segments to end off the episode.
That's all I can think of right now. Sort of an unofficial review while I passively watched like half of it. 💀💀💀
Cheers~!
