I wrote this poem for my sister to read at one of our local art galleries. It is my wish she recites some of her own work, but knowing her she will be shy. Hence, I wrote this as a warm up to her in a letter addressed to only her. However, I thought of all humanity when writing it. It is very rough, but raw, so I love it.
I hope that when all is said and done
When you go back to ashes and none
When you cannot apologize
Or holler or agonize
That you will have loved
That all the love there was in your heart
You gave to the world and lived your life as art
Even if by your own hands you are gone
If you have helped another one
by extending your heart on your hand
,that if you love you are forgiven
For that’s all the human heart possibly can
To love is the only condition to live, it Is God-given
One day when I am gone I wish to be remembered this way. That when I am gone I am remembered for my love if nothing else. All I want is for people to know that I loved when I could, and when I couldn't I wished that I would.
