your music taste = your whole personality

before this, i always find myself in a position where i'm realized that i am such a sad loser who don't have any everything, always obsessing over wanting a girlfriend, or just generally a depression person.

i mainly listen to sad songs back then. one that i always jam to the most is mr. brightside - the killers, apocalypse - cigarettes after sex, i love you so - the walters, and ya know? pretty much every famous sad songs. these songs pretty much change me who I am back then. I always thought myself of a loser who needs someone to love me back. I felt so lifeless and bleak.

until...

my friend recommended me four metallica albums (cliff burton era). so I started listening to that stuff and not gonna lie, that stuff makes me feel so upbeat. and I wonder, where could I get more songs like this? easy. I went to listen to the big four of thrash metal. ever since then, I feel so laidback and chill. it even helps with my anger issues as well.

i proceeded to listen to more stuff like grunge, metal, emo-rock, scene and punk (recently).

it helps me to be more human??? more understanding with myself and other social issues.

one thing for sure, whatever bands or genre you're listening to, their rhythm, lyrics and themes will change your personality. for example, nowadays I tend to gamble the risk, and live by my own rules instead of following the society standardized rules.

music is such a simple yet unique creation that can affect the whole nature of each human 0.0

but still, I listen to those sad songs sometimes. whatever playlist you choose, that's your whole mood for the day.

Dude I realized the same thing a few months ago when I was going through a depressive episode but it was different because of the music I listened to. Typically during episodes I'd listen to all the groups/artists you just listed and just let myself feel sad, but when I listened to more punk music and songs that made me feel happier I wanted to improve. I wasn't depressed because I was "sad" I was depressed because I wanted to be happy. That eventually turned into drive and motivation and I got out of that feeling so much quicker. It's truly insane the long term impact music has on your mental health and just your life in general.

Dig it. My music style is described as "all over the road". This is why playlists are always on shuffle. Never know how it's going to start or how it's going to end, but for sure it's going to be one hell of a ride in between.

this is surely an interesting take. maybe I shall try your methods soon whenever I can't decide which genre I wanna go.

THIS!! I completely understand you ! I used to listen to really fucking depressing music, like shoegaze and ambient .. It made me so sad, unable to do anything. The songs were about love too, which made me crave it so much. But I found new music to listen to, and I've been different? Music that isn't like "waah waah no one loves me" ykwim? I could give you recs, my fav band is Nevada Tan/Panik. Alt rock I guess? Give them a listen.
