Been a Hot Minute

Wow. It's been a hot minute since I've been here. Honestly, I wanted to get more involved the moment I signed up, but I had to take care of an ever-growing amount of family drama. I rather not go into too much detail on this blog entry because, well, yeah... That's how I cope. That being said, things are finally looking up again.

I discovered a lot at the very start of this year alone, such as the Frutiger aesthetic. While I grew up in the 90s, it was my teen years that truly defined me. Frutiger was everywhere, and I loved the Metro variant that came out during the middle of the decade. While it's often associated with Windows 8, the Frutiger Metro look can actually be traced as bar back as 2004 as well, such as the original G4TV channel and the short-lived TechTV merger. Just look at the intro for G4's Icons. I loved it!

This was actually made in Inkscape instead of Flash.

As an artist, I embraced it the Frutiger Metro aesthetics. When it declined in favor of the more flat, Corporate Memphis look, the only source of inspiration I had to continue that was G4TV, and we all know the fate of that channel. xD So to have for name for it, finally, has me so excited. I already have tones of references on Pinterest. Likewise, my original digital art tool was Flash Studio. When that brought by Adobe to eventually become "Animate," I stopped using it in favor of Inkscape, for a time, while I had such a hard time adjusting to more traditional designers. It wasn't until late last year that I discovered Wick Editor, a tool that almost looks and behaves just like Flash Studio. Meaning, I can be back to drawing in a way that actually makes me feel comfortable and happy.
