hey folks!
Here's the process of me reworking my therian mask to make it more borzoi-like. Im not very happy with the paint job, so i'll be changing that up, but i take it as 99% complete now!
ALSO PLEASE DONT TELL ME "aaa its gonna mold >:(", i'll do a whole new blog entry on that and add the link here when done.
⋆ INITIAL MASK ⋆
Here's the mask i'll be modifying. The structure is entirely paper and cardboard :)
⋆ THE PROCESS ⋆
To start things, i had to chop off everything and leave the mask back to its "base" state. So yeah, snout, ears, cheek fluff, all gone. Looks like nightmare fuel, i know, just trust the process xD
after that, i started working on adding the new snout shape, and as you can see the base is entirely cardboard. I used hot glue to put it together but normal paper glue could've also worked (would've just taken a lot longer to dry)
i also cut an opening on the place where my nose used to (be squished against) rest to improve ventilation, comfort and avoid grease getting there.
once i was satisfied with the base snout, i added the ears and cheek fluff and started what i like to call the "skinning" process, which is basically adding a paper 'skin' to the cardboard structure to reinforce it. Kinda like paper mache.
its basically just glue > paper > glue > paper > glue... until you feel like its sturdy enough and you cant EASILY poke a hole through it with a pen or smth.
After the reinforcement i added a layer (actually 3 lol) of acrylic paint primer (but you can just use white acrylic paint), glued the nose in (made out of 10mm eva foam that i had around but you can use cardboard/paper aswell) and proceeded to the painting step
also along the way i removed the eye meshes but i'll probably add them back on xD
anyway
⋆ THE RESULT ⋆
am i happy with it? ABSOLUTELY!, but i'll be redoing the paint job to match my theriotype fur coat as soon as i have more black paint available.
hope this was a helpful and fun experience for those who are looking to make cheap gear or just for those who like arts-n-crafts :)
see ya around and thanks for reading! <3
