I HATE and I mean strongly HATE when people go
"uhhh but uhhh uhm ermmm Harumi backstory and motivation make no sense because ninja are good guy and garmadon bad >:("
like please... take a second and try to see the situation through an emotional lens rather than a logical lens ('cause..yknow Harumi probably wasn't being very logical since she was a kid that just watched their parents die for her!!)
The ninja were not that public with their personality, they were just seen as strong people who could save the day and put all order back into place. So when not only does a stronger force immerge but that stronger force is able to stop the "villain" (great devourer) that killed your parents, while the ninja were powerless, who do you think the kid is gonna put more faith in?
Not only that, but Harumi clearly used Garmadon as a coping mechanism or 'father figure' after her parents died and her adopted ones ignore her.
"But if she liked Garmadon why did she purposly resurrect his evil side? if she thinks she's doing good, why not resurrect his good side?"
To put it simply, Garmadons good side is friends and alias with the ninja. NOW think of it from Harumis perspective here, the man you worship is now helping the people who let your parents be killed
Not only that but Sensei Garmadon was only brought back thanks to the ninja, Harumi obviously saw this situation as a form of the ninja indoctrinating Garmadon and stripping him away of his true self.
Also, Harumi doesn't care about Garmadon as a person, because just lek the ninja, in S1 the puplic didn't know Garmadon for his personality but rather his power. Harumi saw Garmadons power and obsessed over only that aspect of him because she believed he was the only one powerful enough to save her from her miserable life and protect her.
"But wait- why does Harumi project all her hatred on Lloyd?"
Yknow how I just said Harumi was obsessed with Garmadon and believed he was the only one that could protect her? Well imagine how she feels to see Garmadons son, Lloyd, purposefully go against Garmadon?
In the book (Garmadon rulez) and even in the show, it is clearly shown that Harumi wants to be Garmadons child so imagine how jealous she was of Lloyd and especially angered at how he had everything she wanted, he was Garmadons child, he could have been protected by Garmadon, but instead Lloyd stripped that away from himself and fought against Garmadon.
Plus, Lloyd is literally the face of the ninja team since he is of course, the fabled green ninja so even if he was a kid at the time of the great devourer attack, over the years he has clearly shown to have a lot if not the most amount of choice in what the ninja do and Harumi probably noticed that.
This isnt even hard to recognize? I watched a like 4 hour long video of a guy mostly ranting about all the plotholes or mistakes in ninjago but even he could easily understand how Harumi's backstory would affect her. And he's not even in the fandom or reading the books.
He was able to understand the backstory by critically thinking about for less than ten minutes so why can't people who are actively watching and interacting with the books and fandom still not understanding how Harumi's backstory make sense?
INCOMING RANTTTT
Okay, this rant will be about Lloyd and Harumi !!
I really like Lloyd and Harumi as a DYNAMIC and I really wanna make it clear that I in no way ship Harumi and Lloyd. If I bring up their ‘relationship’ or ‘love’ just a way to explain how Lloyd felt abt Harumi in early s8
Harumi and Lloyd easily gotta be the most wild ship in the Ninjago fandom.
A lot of people try and make it enemies to lovers when it’s literally just abuser x victim which is pretty disgusting 💀
I’ve heard people say they like it because of the angst which first of all, abuse and romantic angst are two different things.
Shadowpeach or dragonfruit (LMK) are examples of relationship angst… not Lloyd and Harumi
People also say they like the romantic tension between Lloyd and Harumi
Which again I see none. Yes, Harumi does talk down to Lloyd and say stuff like “because you love me” but she’s clearly trying to drive her knife harder into his heart (metaphorically speaking) it’s pretty clear that Harumis main motive is to prove that anyone can become like her if they have enough bad situations and she used Lloyd to (attempt to) prove that.
Lloyd lost feelings for Harumi the second he found out she was the quiet one. Lloyd believed he could save his demonic father before he could save Harumi.
Also… why do they need to be together anyway? You wanna ship Lloyd with a spunky girl that talks smack to him, than ship him with Akita. It’s as simple as that.
I’ve seen people try and ship Harumi with multiple people the infamous ‘Llorumi’ but also Morro x Harumi, Nya x Harumi, Sally x Harumi and Vania x Harumi. And no matter what it never works because no person can just ‘cure’ Harumi with the power of love and friendship. Hutchins tried doing that and Harumi still killed him and bragged about it (she bragged about it in her official Diary Garmadon Rulez)
“But they got together in crystallized and the writers did say it was possible!”
First of all.. your using crystallized as a justification. For all the character assassinations and simple mistakes crystallized made, it’s crazy that you would utter its name as proof of something.
It’s important to mention Harumi wasn’t originally supposed to be in crystallized, she was added in because the writers were forced too
Plus crystallized was written by 6 writers. Who’s to say they all knew about Harumi and Lloyds past struggles and deeply understood it?
It’s seriously a weak take since it wasn’t even brought up in dragons rising, while all the other canon relationships (Jaya, & Pixane) were both mentioned atleast once.
And I won’t lie to you, I shipped Llorumi in the beginning of s8 before Harumi was revealed to be the Quiet One. But after she was revealed I straight away stopped shipping them and instead focused on the way their characters perfectly opposite eachother
It just sickens me thinking shipping Llorumi, and if you’ve ever experienced even the smallest manipulator you would understand how fvcked up shipping them is
Also their litterally siblings so…

i absolutely agree with all your points! the show expresses quite well why harumi is the way she is. her trauma not only leaves her disappointed with the ninja and survivors guilt, she also misses her parents and desperately longs for a mentor figure. the fact that the object of her hatred, lloyd, is literally her idol's SON must really hurt too.
