I didn't know what to write as my first entry so i'm just gonna talk about my favourite plant...
So the plant that's in the background of my profile is the common tansy (tanacetum vulgare). There's nothing particuraly special about it. It's in the family of asteraceae so it has what is called composite flowers, meaning that each flower is not a singular flower but a cluster of tiny florets forming what appears to be one flower. Sunflowers are a pretty common (and delicious!) example of composite flowers, and that's also another name for asteraceae - the sunflower family!
I don't think there is a very good reason why I like this plant as much as I do. It is native to where I live. It's really common, often growing along roadsides and in urbanised areas. I have very strong memories of the smell that it produced. It wasn't realy a pleasant or unpleasant smell but a distinct one. It was often present through my entire path to school and it was always a little overwhelming but the good kind of overwhelming, like the weight of someone you love laying flat on your chest or a thunderstorm outside your window or water falling on your head in the shower - drowning out all other sounds.
But the truth is that I don't remember when or why exactly I started loving this plant. There is nothing special about it. It's just a slightly toxic weed that I started to love at some point for no apparent reason and to this day it's my favorite plant.
