(most of this was already written in text form to mikey so it might be worded weird)
the the beginning is this calm singing in almost a whisper but towards the end it feels more crazed and desperate. the way the narrator begs that the other will be good to them feels very similar to the yellow wallpaper. the desperation/ anguish that the narrator ends with it just feels like the slow descent to madness. but its such a slow downfall displayed in such short succession that it feels very reminiscent of the yellow wallpaper or that madness that grows from being ignored by the people who were supposed to help and listen to you yk? she (jane in the yellow wallpaper) spends the whole story trying to convince us she is not ill before she eventually succumbs to insanity. its the feeling of insanity where both nothing and everything makes sense. it also feels like a sour grown woman who was a small girl brushed aside constantly and now yearning to be needed and listened to.
“cant you hear that scratching?” shows how the narrator is slowly losing it, hearing things not there.
i assume she has been raised in a religious background and this is her finally snapping and losing on this “God “ that has presumably left her behind. and in the the song there is a line where the woman is singing about how with all the prayers and pleas sent to god they might as well sound like applause. dont even get me started on how she refers to the man as “Mr. Wolf” like she knows he is not good for her and even calls him a wolf. and she continues to beg this man to be good for her. plus at the very end where she is insistently begging him to be good he replies with “no, not i”.
all while this man and her supposed “god” are slowly driving to closer and closer to the edge. probably like the woman really just wanted to be loved in a way she never felt before.
and back into the whole religious layer, maybe the guys is really big in the church of this God of hers. and he is so fully invested in this God it has tainted his own sanity to where he believes he is a prophet or this God himself.
so its this back and worth wear she loves him so deeply but feels he is ruined or tainted by this “false god”. and he views himself as better or of higher standing due to his own delusions of this god. so while she first thought this man would fix her and be the light she had omce been missing instead he has placed himself above her and views her as less than both do to his own beliefs and his delusions abt this god.
and ofc then theres a different layer of who they were raised by that let them get to this point. like maybe the narrator was raised by a hyper religious man and a sour woman left to permanently be “beneath “ her husband. and due to the whole surrounding context we can assume this distain was just left to fester in both the woman and her daughter (the narrator)
YAYYY IM DONE I HOPE U LIKED IT FRANKIE!!
