im a bit confused. isnt adding "core" to the end of something basically the same as making an aesthetic? or somethin like that. im not sure what any of this means please dont hate me 3
itsg, like soooo many sub-cultures has been mislabeled as aesthetics and cores an its so annoying. will forever hate tiktok for that TT. its like most people forgot that some ways of dressing up and songs can actually represent an actual culture. exemple, gyarus, its like the whole sub-culture is only a media aesthetic where they post ''gyaru-core'' pics but has no interests in actually dressing up as one/doing the makeup irl and its like this with every sub-cultures that becomes trendy. like it gets butchered into an aesthetic just for people to completely get over it after 2 months. leaving the culture like semi destroyed
i think a part of it is the tiktok-ification of aesthetics/styles. everything has to have a name to trend on tik tok. a lot of tik tokers don't even care to research what they're talking about before adding "-core" to the end of a random word. smth smth commodification of subcultures and individual personality too lol
i made a tiktok literally saying this but specifically about cutecore/gore, i got a ton of hate videos, all of them are just crybabies that don't know anything about kawaii culture
Dude yesss I've noticed this since forever ago. I used to be really sucked into it back in like 2020 and 2021 when it first kinda started with the like vsco shit and I trend hopped for a while which, no shame btw loll, but it's honestly crazy to think about now. I think it peaked when like hopecore and those videos with that one crystal castles song started trending.

especially since cutecore tends to just be kawaii fashion but for some reason ppl think saying kawaii is bad like bro that's the name of the style.

I will not lie, I didn't even realize that some of those aesthetics existed beforehand.

I think it's a trend made by TikTok.
japancore, hopecore, y2kcore, olderbrothercore, etc.
one thing I like about it is that today's generations finally learned what it meant to be cool back in the days.
other than that, some core doesn't even make sense where japancore is just literally a random street in japan.
