Tony Soprano and the recorder

Tony decides to buy a recorder at a music store as a gift for his daughter Meadow, who used to play it in elementary school. He tries to play it outside the store, but he is so bad at it that the cashier, a grumpy old man, comes out and tells him to shut up. Tony is annoyed, but he leaves without making a scene. A few minutes later, a nerdy boy and his family walk into the store. The boy is a musical prodigy who can play any instrument. He goes straight to the piano and starts playing a beautiful piece, without asking the cashier's permission. The cashier is amazed and delighted by the boy's talent, and he doesn't mind that he is using the piano without paying. He even offers to give him a discount on any instrument he wants. The boy's parents are proud and grateful, and they decide to buy him a new guitar.

Meanwhile, Tony goes to a nearby diner to have a coffee. He sees a newspaper article about a rival mobster who has been arrested for racketeering. He feels a surge of satisfaction and decides to celebrate by playing the recorder again. He walks back to the music store and tries to play the recorder outside, but he is still terrible at it. The cashier hears him and comes out again, this time more angry and rude. He tells Tony to get lost and stop bothering his customers. Tony is furious and feels disrespected. He walks into the store and confronts the cashier. He sees the boy playing the piano and recognizes him as the son of one of his associates. He asks the cashier why he is so nice to the boy, but so mean to him. The cashier says that the boy is a genius, while Tony is a moron. Tony loses his temper and beats up the cashier. He then grabs a gun from his jacket and shoots him in the foot. He tells the boy and his family to get out of the store, and he takes the recorder with him. He leaves the store, whistling the tune he was trying to play on the recorder.
