so this past summer i had the pleasure of going to a fall out boy concert!! i was invited by my friend/ex who had an extra ticket and offered it for free, which was totally cool of them. i drove out to the location to meet them there that evening, it was a totally clear and awesome day, the venue was outdoor and i was absolutely stoked.
i pulled up (parking was CRAZY but not as bad as expected!!) and trekked like a quarter of a mile (i showed up later...parked further </3) to meet my friend, and we got over to our seats (really good ones!! idk how they scored those!!) just in time to see the opener we were both excited for (BRING ME THE HORIZON!!). and overall everything was chill. we couldn't get in the merch line but it was chill </3.
...and then storm clouds gathered.
no fr. storm clouds were rolling in, and we were all kinda glancing around but like "ohh haha lolz no way the rains gonna hit over here it's just some thunder in the distance!!"
until lightning started actually flashing across the sky above us, and the grainyass speakers (YOUD THINK THEY'D HAVE BETTER SPEAKERS??) announced we had to go hide in our cars. but like only 3 ppl could actually HEAR the announcements bc they were so gd quiet so we actually ended up just getting swarmed by ppl leaving and had to follow the crowd so we didn't die. so me n my friend started walking...and then the downpour started. and by that i mean a FUCKING DOOOOWN. POUR. we got to my car n we were DRIPPING!!
so yknow how the venue was outside?? yeah so it was also in the a$$crack of nowhere. so we could barely even load ticketmaster, call anyone to say what was happening, etc. it was looking like my friend couldn't even get a refund if the show was cancelled fr!! so it sucked assss for a while. just loading and reloading pages and not even my music would load :(. we tried going back to the gates to ask what was up, if the show was cancelled, but no luck.
we did find sum other ppl tho!! and we jammed with them for a bit to FOB songs playing on their speakers. i was totally awkward but it was still fun. (side note i feeel like i'm getting my events out of order rn but all these things happened...just perhaps not in this same order?? idk my memory's shit it was a CHAOTIC night)
then i walked my friend back to their car, where we--long story short--went through hell when they tried to drive me back to my car. mud, slipping down a hill lowkey, traffic everywhere, ppl yelling. but we had sum nice interactions w/ fellow disappointed ppl!! even2ally i got back to my car and we said our farewells...
...or so we thought. i was like a mile and a half away, finally got on a call with my mom to let her know i wasn't dying in a rainstorm...when i get a call from my friend.
"WHERE ARE YOU!! COME BACK!!"
the show's back on.
i WHIPPED a fuckin U-ie like u wouldn't believe (it had stopped pouring ofc i wasn't like that dumb) and got back to that concert in 5 minutes FLAT. i parked so gd fast and i RAN so gd fast and i found my friend and we got back 2 our seats. and that concert was everything. ofc they apologized for the delay and near cancellation, and that their set would have to be shorter, but it still totally rocked. there will never be anything quite like being in a crowd of ppl who stuck it out through a rainstorm for like an hour and a half, just hanging onto hope. it was exhilirating. we were soaked. our SEATS were soaked. the little paper pink seashells we were supposed to shine our phone flashlights through were soaked. but we still did it. i don't know how they pulled it off after the stage was effectively doused, but they did. and the crowd's numbers may have been diminished, but we made sure we were LOUD.
so yea that's like my #1 concert memory!! just wanted 2 share bc it's stuck in my head rn :)
