Hypnospace Outlaw

Baby-worded summary: Hypnospace Outlaw has you play as an ‘Enforcer’ where you police the content and users of the ‘90s era parody social media platform, Hypnospace. It’s also set in this universe but ‘two steps to the left’, or something like that.

I played a bit of it today and yesterday since I remembered I had it when I saw the thumbnail for MatPat’s playthrough of it [I didn’t watch it, I’m so sorry but goddamn after his Superliminal playthrough I decided to never watch a GTLive video again] and I was like ‘WOAH’ since I mostly forgot about it and such.

It’s an amazing game! I love it to pieces!!

The amount of detail in it scares me. Like, how long did planning and development take?? I fear these developers. Making every single page and then adding detail and personality into those pages to make them feel as though there’s actual people from that made said pages, updating them as time progresses, having different outcomes in the story depending on your actions [yeah no way that’s what video games do most of the time BWL], and also experiencing a fake community with these fake people. I’m flabbergasted, discombobulated, even!

I mean shit dude, these fuckers made a music genre called coolpunk and made it as pissy of a community as it would be in this reality, I’d bet. And also those fucking nerds in the Freelands?? And ALSO also making an entirely separate boomer shooter to fit the era made by one of the characters that very much fits his personality and his comics/style AND is also a damn good game on its own?? Oh mein gott… love me some glass sharts.

Jay’s dedication to this reality scares me. But maybe it’s because I jump from fictional universe to fictional universe depending on whatever fixation I’m suffering from, BWLLL.

My only problem is the last part in the present where you have to archive all of the pages, but I haven’t completed that yet. I’ll update this when I remember, maybe?

My review: 10/10. I LOVE THIS GAME. I love games with ‘soul’ or whatever put into them.
