Just why?
I was given lots of mechanical pencils when I was younger, but I just couldn't use them properly. They would break under my pressure (ironically, so do I, lol).
I prefer the good old reliable wood pencil. It has just the right amount of sturdiness and fluidity that mechanical pencils don't have. And unless the leads are higher Bs, mechanical pencils are too light for my liking. They're fine for technical drawing, but even then I prefer to use harder pencil grades such as H, H1 and H2.
There's even woodless graphite, which is great for people who don't like the sound of wood on paper, but is just as versatile as its wood counterparts.
Mechanical pencils don't offer me the same versatility of angles, so I'm limited to their rounded leads of a precise size.
But, this is just my opinion as an artist. :P
