don't take any of these too seriously, i don't really actually really care that much. or do, and start an argument with me in the comments. i'll reply!
deftones are great but still way overrated. that said i will defend their music if people hate on them!
exact same thing with pierce the veil, great but people obsess with them to such a high amount that they're kinda overrated. again, i'll totally defend their music if people hate on them hahaha
waterparks are not that good for everyone to obsess over them how they do. i like some of their songs but it's nothing that crazy c'mon. also they're not emo
millionaires make fun music and i like some of their songs but again i don't get why you're all so obsessed with them
melanie martinez fucking sucks both musically and as a person, i ignore friend requests from anyone who likes her
that "scenecore" music genre fukin suuuuxxxxx (you know what i'm talking about, rebxyxx or whatever their name is, suicidal idol 6arelyhuman that kinda stuff. i won't lie tho i do have like 250 scrobbles of one 6arelyhuman song... in my defense it's like a minute long) it pisses me off when people just listen to that stuff and call themselves "emo scene" THAT'S NOT WHAT THAT MEANS!
if you're over the age of like, 14 and your favorite genre is still pop punk you need to listen to more music. i don;t dislike pop punk for the record
metalcore is not a bad genre at all but most of the most popular metalcore bands are not very good
black metal is good but everyone takes it way too seriously, it's so edgy it's just kinda funny more than intimidating at times
jokes about weezer being bad and male manipulator music or whatever stopped being funny 3 years ago. you can admit you just genuinely like pinkerton by now it's really not that big of a deal
mcr overrated. i like them don't get me wrong, but there's better emo bands out there. also, mcr fans can be way overdramatic about people liking other bands more than them
on that note, i don't get how people stay obsessed with mcr for years and years and never branch out even to more 3rd wave bands or anything apart from mcr side projects... how do you never want to explore their genres further... you're missing out on so much good stuff (yes i have seen many people genuinely like this)
speaking of mcr side projects, pencey prep and death spells stop sounding that good once you get over your mcr obsession lol. and l.s.dunes is below mediocre by post-hardcore standards, especially considering the members' other projects
crunkcore is overhated! probably not that controversial here, but in general music circles people hate that stuff hahaha
taylor swift sucks, i'm not one of those emos who thinks he's too good for any pop music but her music is mind-numbingly boring and just sounds bad.
worst emo wave is 4th and it's not even close.
this is my most niche complaint on here but the music genre name "rock en español" is the worst genre name of all time and does a complete disservice to every band that gets grouped under it. i've seen everything from prog to ska to shoegaze to pop get called that, usually as the main genre the band gets called instead of any proper genre, it really prevents the band from gaining a wider audience, and i dislike how it strips down the band to just their language, grouping huge amounts of bands from very diverse backgrounds (both genre wise and culturally, since tons of countries speak spanish) together when they really deserve to be recognized individually.

everytime someone recommends falling in reverse to someone just getting into emo music a puppy dies. not only does ronnie radke suck as a human being, falling in reverse is NOTT GOOD, and also not emo
avril lavigne's music sucks. i do own one of her cds i got it for like 1 dollar canadian (did you know she's also canadian? fun fact) also she's super pretty and she did have cool style i'll give her that. but her music still sucks and it's not emo

i don;t get the hype around jimmy eat world. i don't dislike them but the only album of theirs that i really liked was static prevails.
i genuinely don't think misfits would be as popular as they are if they didn't have a cool logo. i like some of their stuff for the record
if you think sex pistols is the best punk band or like top 10 punk bands you need to listen to more punk music immediately.
i don't get why everyone likes car seat headrest so much
mayhem is only as popular as it is because of how insane everything to do with that band is, not because of the actual music, which is so mediocre.
last for now: i'm not an elitist but if you're all so emo how come barely any of you hve listened to any 1st wave? get those moss icon scrobbles up

WOAH I didn't expect waterparks to be on here. they're my special interest band but i get it. I myself don't even know why I obsess over them, there are 100% better bands out there but they're special to me. that being said I dont listen to them in an emo way my favorite album is literally IP which is more "pop-punkish." I respect your opinion though dude 🙏

Thank you for the Melanie Martinez comment. I’m so sick of her and her obsessive fanbase. I agree that a lot of BM is just popular because of the edgyness associated with the genre, I personally can’t stand most BM stuff that comes from Europe; I’ve found a few Asian bands that switch things up a bit and are fun to listen to as well! Oh yeah, don’t really like the sex pistols much either LOL
my opinion on black metal wasn't really that it's mostly popular from the edge factor, more that how seriously fans of it take it gets kinda corny sometimes

super heavy on taylor swift. like the only songs i can bare listening to are the early ones that are part of everyone's childhoods. but i cannot imagine being so obsessed with her music. and what's worse is that half of the population seems to have become 'swifties' overnight a couple years ago, and because of them, there's no escape. every time i'm in the car, i cannot get by, not even a two minute drive, with her mediocre songs playing. i literally learnt every word of a chorus against my will just because i heard it for two weeks straight. like it's gotten so bad that i feel like stappling my ears shut every time. the only emotion her music elicits from me is violence. and that specific string of swifties act like she's the seconding coming of jesus or smth. they obsess over her lyricism as if it's anything special.
you're right about the lyricism, i saw a bunch of people obsess over that "the blood rushed to my cheeks so scarlet it was maroon" line, but it doesn't even make any sense, those are two completely different shades
