Chapter One: The letter
Everything was calm, peaceful. My family was one of the few purebloods left that had hidden from the magical world. The only ones who knew would be the Ministry of Magic. My name….Isabella Lockheart, I was the last of my line and my parents had taught me everything they knew but by the age of twelve I was excelling at my spells and potions more than either of them ever dreamed. It was my thirteenth birthday and my family had decided to set up a party for me. My mother had invited all of the wizarding socialites along with the Malfoy family and The Lestrange family.
I sat in my room that morning, staring at my reflection in the mirror. My long fiery red hair was sharp contrast to my emerald green eyes, my skin pale and clear. I bit my full bottom lip as I began to run a comb through my unruly hair, trying my best to tame my hair. My mother had made it clear that the Malfoys’ were the most important family in the wizarding world and that I was to make sure to make myself presentable. A stunning emerald green dress was laid out on my bed, silver heels sitting on the floor beside it. As I applied a bit of eyeliner and mascara my mother entered my room.
My mother was a stunning older image of myself, her own fiery red hair piled atop her head elegantly and she was dressed in a beautiful silver gown. She smiled at me as I struggled to tame my hair.
“Izzy…here let me help you.” She chuckled softly, walking up behind me to begin running the comb easily through my hair. I rested my hands on my lap and stared at my mother in the mirror.
“Mother…is this all really necessary?” I asked while my mother began to braid pieces of my hair to twist them around my head like a crown. She pinned the ends and poured some oil into her hands, gently running her fingers through my hair causing the frizz to vanish and in its place was my luscious hair.
“My dear…you’re turning thirteen and there is no more your Father and I can teach you. It’s time for us to introduce you to the rest of the world. We have kept you safe for all these years. Once the summer is over, you will be attending Hogwarts.” She said, reaching around to grab the expensive diamond pins so she could add them to my hair. I looked at myself in the mirror and was surprised to see someone I did not recognize staring back at me.
“I still don’t understand why its so important to have all these people here. Today isn’t any different from any other birthday…” I replied, standing up once she was finished tucking a few strands away. I walked over to my bed and stared down at my dress; my arms crossed over my chest.
My mother walked to my side and pulled me against her hugging me close. “Sweetheart, I know it’s been stressful these last few weeks but today is important because everyone must know who you are. You come from a longline of powerful witches and wizards and you deserve the respect that entails. Just breathe, darling. I’ll be downstairs when you’re ready.” She kissed my forehead and smiled at me as she walked out, closing my door behind her.
I took a deep breath and finally changed into my dress, pulling the zipper up as the dress hugged my developing body. Even though I was only thirteen, I had a rather shapely body. I slipped my heels on and finished getting ready by adding the diamond necklace my mother had gifted me and the dainty diamond bracelet my father had given me. I slipped my family ring onto my pinkie and made my out of my room.
I could hear the guests arriving and greeting my parents as they both stood by our huge double front doors. I stood at the top of the staircase, my hands resting on the banister as I watched a family of three walk through the door. The group consisted of a older man with long flowing white blonde hair and sharp facial features. He stood proudly even though he used a cane to walk. Beside him was a beautiful woman with long black hair. Her face was framed by beautiful strands of white blonde hair. Last in the group was a handsome young boy with a scowl plastered on his face and his pure white blond hair slicked back from his face. I blushed deeply as I noticed his eyes were the most beautiful shade of gray I had ever seen.
“Lucious Malfoy, welcome to my home and it’s a pleasure to see you after all these years.” My father greeted the older man with a smile and a handshake.
“Thank you for inviting us. I must be honest I was rather surprise to see your owl arrive in our home.” The man replied, raising one perfect eyebrow as the woman beside him greeted my mother.
“Narcissa, welcome to our home. I haven’t seen you since graduation. How has life been with Lucious?” She asked, smiling at Narcissa with excitement. It was obvious the two women had been close a long time ago. Narcissa kissed my mother’s cheek in greeting, her smiling beaming.
“Rebekah, it’s been ages. I’ve been doing well. Lucious is as always a handful but we have had a happy marriage.” She said in response, the boy beside her looking around the room.
For the party, her mother had directed the house elves to decorate the house in my favorite colors. The floors had been transfigured into beautiful forest floors while huge evergreen trees were scattered around the foyer of the home, silver and green banners hanging from the staircase while the ballroom and the rest of the house had streamers hanging from the ceiling, rippling as if there was wind in the house.
I sighed as I knew I would eventually have to join my parents. Avoiding the inevitable would just make my mother come looking for me when all I wanted was to hide in our library and read. I fixed my dress and descended the stairs, my heels clacking on the marble. The young boy’s head whipped in my direction, his eyes narrowing and then widening in surprise as I came to my mother’s side.
“Ah hello dear. These are the Malfoy’s. The man talking to your father is Lucious and this amazing woman is Narcissa.” My mother said, wrapping an arm around my shoulder. “Narcissa this my daughter Isabella.”
Narcissa looked at me and smiled even more. “You look exactly like your mother. This is my son, Draco.” She said, nudging her son. He shook his head before he flashed a heart stopping smirk and held his hand out to me. I blushed slightly before I smiled at him and took his hand.
“Hello, Draco…may I give you a tour of our home?” I asked, my manners automatically kicking in. Draco blinked at her question and his smirk turned into a genuine smile.
“Sure…I’d like that.” He replied, holding his arm out to me. I happily hooked my arm through his as we walked away from our parents. The moment we passed through the doors into the ballroom, his arm dropped and he ran a hand through his hair.
