hiiii everybody !! I'm SO excited to reveal to you all the yukata I've been working on in my textiles class all year ! I can't be bothered to write about the full production process LOL but I'm super happy with how it turned out ! I got so many compliments on the yukata when it was being hung to dry after dyeing ! the technique used is arashi-shibori, & the yukata itself was made with silk ! (which was an absolute BITCH to work with, might I add...)
sadly my textiles teacher is retiring now but I hope my project was a good note to end her career on- she told me that she'll miss 'students like you' 😭 I feel so lucky to have had her as my teacher- she'd already made two kimonos, & I was super grateful for her experience & expertise !! I think I'm going to miss her too. we really bonded over kimono !! trying so hard not to get all poetic right now...
a few sidenotes before I get into it:
I do think I'll invest in a white v-neck shirt until I get a juban, as the yukata itself is quite see-through (I double-layered the sleeves but not the main piece; which I suppose you're meant to do, as it's a hitoe (literally 'single-layer'), but it would be nice to have a bit more opacity...) I don't think you can see anything but just for dignity's sake (& to protect it from sweat) I think a t-shirt can't hurt ^^ & the arm openings tend to shift due to clipping them, so I don't want anything immodest to be seen... (even if my mum is always rattling on about 'people these days just wear ANYTHING ! they have no dress standards anymore, & they're making such fools of themselves ! you have nothing to worry about !!')
by the way, for those who read my obi makura post- the sheet fasteners work surprisingly well !! I had to fully loosen them to give myself room to breathe (not kidding btw, I felt nauseous the first time I took photos as the elastic was so tight) but they do a FANTASTIC job holding the collar where I want it ! I need to improvise some koshihimo, though, because I'm currently using a ribbon & it's just too slippery with the silk to be viable. heartbreakingly, the tape measure I used to measure the sheet fasteners actually adheres very well to the silk, so if you see me around town with a measuring tape poking out under my ohashori, don't question it...
without further ado, here are my photos ! (some of them could be better but mosquitoes were trying to EAT ME so I had to rush juuust a little LOL)
photo from the back ! (believe it or not I CAN make a nice bow, the obi & I are still forming our friendship so, you know, it's a little rocky at the moment...)
& last but not least...
EDIT: BAHAHA FORGIVE THE PYJAMA PANTS I COULDN'T BE BOTHERED TO TAKE THEM OFF 😭😭 TYPICAL AUSSIE

Very cool, turned out great. I hear those are hard to make but you really hit it out of the park. Do you ever plan to wear it to something?
thank you !! it wasn't that difficult- it's really just sewing a bunch of straight lines, though I will admit that my teacher took over the more complicated parts ^^; I made it with the idea of wearing it around town whenever I'm in the mood- I've already worn it once & it was surprisingly comfy!
