What's going on with malls?

I wasn't really in the malls shopping around back into the 80s and early 00s but what happened?! The mall used to have a cool and cute vibe to it, but now(for the most part) they're all dying out. And nowdays we have all these cool clothing styles, so I feel as if they should be thriving! Anyone feel the same?

Two major malls in the Chicagoland area are closing within a month of each other very soon. And these are very populated middle/upper middle class suburbs. Very sad. :-(

I think it's because many more purchases are now made online where there is more choice in sizes and more affordable prices (even if to the detriment of workers and the environment) after these difficult years there are many people who certainly want to go out but many others no longer have pleasure in being in places with many people.
I prefer second hand shops! the other day at the flea market I found a gorgeous red coat of excellent quality for just a few euros. :)
