another blog complaining about people adding -core to the end of things

before  you run to  the comments and start saying "let people have  fun!!!": i don;t care

those terms totally  annoy me, even if they're like generally harmless or whatever. it's just that it's such  a  jarring disconnect from it's origins. seeing the  suffix -core used for such nothingburgers of aesthetics such  as  "cutecore" "scenecore" and whatever other microtrend is happening this week, while being at all familiar with the background of the term is kinda insane.

it's even more jarring when it's applied to a term that  could actually be matched up  with -core for an actual music genre that exists, like emocore but instead of referring to emotional hardcore it's referring to someone's badly edited pseudo myspace era scene glitter gifs. tht one specifically pisses  me off cause 80s emocore is the entire origin of emo music, and i'm a big fan of it, and just seeing other emo kids have no idea wht it even is is kinda crazy to me. you  figure this out if you look up anything about the history of emo at all, you guys don't care enough to learn about the genres you claim to like that much at all? fascinating. anyway

back to the first thing, modern -core aesthetic microtrends have no substance behind them. "scenecore" is just some of the most surface level, eyecatchin and recognizable icons of popular 2000s nd 2010s emo and scene trends.  with  lots of brands and corporate imagery attached to it (hot topic everything, sanrio obsessed, monster every 2 seconds + i've noticed a crazy amount of talk about "scene brands" within circles revolving around scenecore) am i saying it's bad and makes you  so not emo  to  like sanrio? no, it's cute. am i saying it's poser behavior to drink monster? no, i love energy drinks! my point is scenecore doesn't have anything else behind these things. it's just a consumerist front with nothing that it really stands for.

i had like more sstuff tht i was ggonna write but this is the point that i realised actyually i don't care that much . anyone got any hardcore or post hardcore recs leave them in tha comments below t hanks

always super conflicted about this bc on one hand yeah let people have fun but also as a webmaster yeah seeing websites coded from scratch made with blood sweat and tears reduced to "webcore" is annoying. like if someone did that to me i'd be pissed lmao. and you're so real for the consumerism part tbh

no yeah you're right that;s another issue i have with internet "aesthetic" culture in general, it totally reduces art and hard work to nothing but quickly consumed imagery constantly
