Animation progress log :D

Idk if ive talked about it before but i do art and animation as a side hobby thingy. It nothing incredible but i just wanted to catalog a small animation test ive been working on cuz i wanted to get used to adobe animate.

DAY 1

1. wtf do i even animate.

what i would say is the hardest part of actually doing something is coming up what wtf ur doing. Fortunately i had a drawing siting next to me that kinda inspired me somewhat

it was a random ass drawing from my trig lecture and liked it just enough to make an animation w/ a character like this.

Now i jujst needed an audio snippet to animate around. this took like 2 hrs but finally found a snippet i liked from a show called MTV's Downtown.

Its from EP 2: Train Pain. Time Stamp 5:33-5:43.

so all that was left to do was actually animate lmao.

2. draft
I wanted to draw a simple frame to start w/ to have an idea of what the animation would look like in the long run. After about 40 mins i had something that looked like this.

I wanted the animation to take place in a sort of parking lot at night, cuz i felt like it, added a cup that the character could interact w/ later on, and a lightpost that could accent the character.

After a whole 4hrs i had a very rough animatic. I also decided that the character felt to static and wanted it to interact w/ the lightpost and sort of swing on it.

and thats all i had in Day 1

DAY 2

1. backgrounds and smoothing.

Since i had done so much in day 1 i decided to do something different on day 2, working on the background for the animation. I dont usually do backgrounds or landscapes of any kind so i was kinda worried that i wouldnt be able to do what i had in mind. This is what i ended up making.

I forgot to record a timelapse so heres a "layer by layer" of the background

2. back to animating

my friend also had given me a great idea for the animation by making the other voice ("Alex" in MTV's Downtown) be a dude recording the main character. I liked the idea a lot and made it so the camera could be expressive (if this doesnt make sense just look at the animation at the end).

Also got the idea that the lightpost is faulty and that when the main character swings back on it, it makes it flicker. I also changed the fps from 12 to 24 since i felt like 12fps was limiting what i wanted the animation to look like.

so here is the most recent version of the animation w/ the background. still gotta finish the cup :(

also i played a round a bit more and did an effect test on the video. Gave it a whoren out vhs look and might or might not use in the end.

and thats all i have to show for now. I still have some inbetweening to do, more lipsync, and ofc coloring. Still making good progress tho. Will update at a later date, most likely soon.
