December 9th, 2023. Entry 4: About "THE SOUND / THE YEAR" and other shenanigans
I haven't released anything in a while, that I am aware of. I've been very busy with university, as well as a general immense writer's block. That seems to have gone away, though! I'm making music again, and better than ever before, IMO. New music will be out very soon. I'm currently checking out a new release as I write this.
THE SOUND kind of just exploded in my head once. I found some samples to chop, and decided to just give it a go, throw it in Ableton (I know, more on that later) and just see what happens. Well, needless to say I really loved the result. Very different from everything else I've released, but I don't mind anymore TBH. I don't really feel like I have to make the same things over and over again, and this I think is what helped me break my writer's block. I'm a huge fan of James Blake, and his new album made me understand the polarity of the artist's mind. I always thought of him as a singer, but then he goes and releases an amazing dance-edm-thingy album and I'm mesmerized. More and more I see artists I love branch out into other flows of song, and I'm all here for it.
THE YEAR was born out of a blister of creativity after watching the infamous All My Homies Hate Skrillex. I still love Skrillex after watching the video, but I also found a new love for old school Dubstep music. Hell, here's my new Spotify playlist. I wanted to have a go at a Coki/Sorrow type beat, and I did manage to make something at least. I hope you enjoy it!
Yes, both of these songs were made in Ableton. Switching to Bitwig has been a long transitional period, and I'm only really comfortable making ambient music for now. (You'll just have to wait and see what I've been making in Bitwig, what an amazing stretchy DAW.) Another switch I'm making is a distributor switch, and wow, it is tedious. DistroKid has always been my preferred method of distributing music to streaming services, but lately it hasn't been doing it for me. I'm "founding" a not-so-much-of-a-label for my aliases and people I trust, and that would be ridiculously expensive in DistroKid, as well as annoying considering its layout. My new service of choice will be Amuse. With its unlimited-artist model for the most expensive plan, I can carry out all my side project goodness with no worries! Expect more side projects in the future, like this one, still coming back to streaming services with the help of Amuse. I'll miss the damn-near-instant release times DistroKid provides, but I'm willing to wait if it means I can organize my releases and not have to post my crazy side projects in the same profile.
Thanks for reading :3
