Dear reader,
I'm a bit of a history buff and I stay awake at night think "what could have been?" For example, I'm very upset the Allied forces during World War 2 decided to allow the USSR to take Berlin. George Patton, a general during the war, HATED the Russians. It could be because he was a bit of a racist, but I think he understood what communism is. If you didn't know, as Stalin's army marched across Eastern Europe pushing back the Nazis, they pillaged and raped everyone in their path - hell bent on revenge. They got away with it because the Allies won the war. Patton pushed hard to allow the west to take Berlin, but was shot down by Eisenhower because the President believed the casualties would be too extreme. The Red Army ended up losing 350,000 men attempting to take the city - so at first glance you could say Eisenhower was right. However, the Nazis hated the Red Army FAR MORE than the Western Allies, so Patton argued that the Germans would not have fought as hard fighting on their Western flank.
Turns out, Patton was 100% right. The end of the Third Reich meant a new menace would take its place: The Red Menace. Patton went on to protest that the Russians should keep as little of Europe as possible, even if it meant continuing the war. Get this- just seven months after after Victory in Europe, Patton was serving as military governor of Bavaria, a state in South-East Germany, the general was killed in a freak Jeep accident. He ended up dying in a hospital. We may never know, but serious historians speculate that he was purposefully killed by those dirty commies.
I have mixed feeling about Patton as a person, but I completely agree with his opinions on the Russians during World War 2. I also love how he is described by those who knew him, they say he "He prayed like a nun yet cursed like a sailor", which reminds me of Matthew 10:16 "Behold I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves. Be ye therefore wise as serpents and simple as doves." Patton was certainly a badass, though his treatment of Jews left much to be desired.
I think I'll close these little messages with a favorite quote, so here's your first:
"Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains to bring it to light." ~ George Washington
Until Next Time,
