1/3rd of the way through this project. As always feel free to recommend albums, and check out the playlist. April 22nd: Souvlaki by Slowdive This is another one I've been meaning to get around to. Apparently, there's debates over whether this album is better that Loveless » Continue Reading

Feel free to suggest other albums. I don't think my current list will last me to the end of the year. Also the playlist link. April 8th: Rated R by Queens of the Stone Age I've listened to Songs for the Deaf before, so it was natural that I would love this. It's brutal, punchy, but has a sense of h » Continue Reading

Playlist April 1st: Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers by The National I've listened to a few National albums before, but I wanted to look at their earlier work. This is a good example of how, after their first album was vaguely country-ish (I've heard some of it), the National had a very clear idea of what they wanted to be: dark, dramatic, sometimes sarcastic » Continue Reading

Link to playlist here. Like you give a shit. March 25th: The Return Of The Space Cowboy by Jamiroquai Funky basslines. High-pitched vocals. Groovy keyboard licks. Jamiroquai's funky-jazzy style is something I don't listen to nearly enough. "Just Another Story" makes it clear from the beginning that this is going to be an epic journey of rhythm, and tha » Continue Reading

The playlist Yeah I'm out of ideas for how to open these. And these don't get notes anyway. March 18th: Bone Machine by Tom Waits Tom Waits is a fascinatingly weird man. I listened to an interview with him where he went on a weir » Continue Reading

March 11th: Decoration Day by Drive-By Truckers Man, they weren't kidding. That first song is about incest. This album is pretty good blues-inspired rock with some ripping guitar riffs, with my favorites being "My Sweet Annette", "Heathens", and the title track. This was also the first album of Jason Isbell's brief stint in the band, before he left to pursue his solo career in non-terrible country... » Continue Reading

I should probably stop writing intros if nobody reads these. March 4th: Apostrope (') by Frank Zappa This was my first time with a full Zappa album, and I was not disappointed. Shorter than I expected, for one thing, but that's not the main draw. The main draw is that Frank Zappa is a fucking lunatic genius . Can any other musician say that they opened an album with "Don't Eat The Yellow Snow", wh... » Continue Reading

I've neglected to mention this until now, but I've been making a playlist featuring one song from every album I've listened to from this project, and you can listen to that here (b » Continue Reading

I would ask people to suggest albums but I know for sure that nobody is reading these. These are more for me than they are for anyone else. February 19th: The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby by U2 For some reason, I'd never listened to a full U2 album. They have songs I love, but I fell in love with those songs before I really became an album person, so I've decided to correct that here. The Joshua T... » Continue Reading

Feel free to suggest albums (although I don't think anyone's seen these so far) February 12th: Heaven or Las Vegas by the Cocteau Twins This album was full of relaxing vibes. I love the spaced out synths and guitars, and all of the reverb, and the vocals that are so incomprehensible that they're almost an instrument. (sidenote: I don't know why, but I can't find the lyrics to » Continue Reading
