Jellyfish dreams...

Years ago, the most random thought occurred to me: what do jellyfish dream of?

We know that they do sleep (quote from Eco Magazine: However, Caltech scientists have now discovered that, as different as our daily schedules may seem, humans and jellyfish actually start and end their days with the same behavior: sleep. This finding that jellyfish sleep implies that sleep is an ancient behavior, largely untouched by millennia of evolution) but do they dream? And if they do, I wonder what they are dreaming about...For some reason, I always imagined their dreams would start as darkness. The deep, never-ending darkness that's so heavy and silent, like the depths of the ocean...but there'd be light too. Strange, sudden bursts of neon colors, cerulean and violet, shocking greens and hazy pinks. With every bright flash, there would come noises, almost something of music. Deep, thrumming bass and chimes, something quick with flashes of electric blues and almost a whisper with the softest shade of violet.

I have no idea why I thought this, I was pretty young back then, and there's really no scientific basis for it. Truly, I think I just wanted to believe that jellyfish had sweet dreams, pretty things full of light and something of music.

Side note, Jellyfish Dreams would be a lovely title for a book...maybe about a mermaid?
