The Men Who Built Industrial America

I wanted to share something I recently found in my research. Sometimes I hear people excuse the atrocities committed by men like Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, The Vanderbilts, etc. because even though they did all that bad stuff, they also did so much philanthropy, and isn't that great? :D

Well I wanted to share something I found that demonstrates why we should NOT excuse their actions. These industrial businessmen, and many who I did not name here, are responsible for literally thousands of deaths of hardworking people. Here is the quote I found, taken from a steel mill manager in the early 1930s

"THIS MILL is too dangerous. We cannot allow women to visit," said the assistant safety manager at Jones and Laughlin's South Side plant in Pittsburgh. "Not even our nurses. We have two nurses and it would be a great help to them in treating accidents if they knew something of the processes at which the man had been injured, but we simply cannot let them in. You see, we have a lot of equipment that is out of date, lacks the new safety devices and is liable to break down at any time, causing serious accidents. It still yields a return on investment so the company cannot scrap it. Another thing. We are much too crowded here because we have expanded production without expanding the site area of the plant. The company has squeezed in new equipment beside the old until it is so thick it isn't even safe for the men who are working here. Those who have been with us a long time are used to it but new men are always getting into trouble. We have many more accidents than we would if there were a little more room. Of course it is cheaper to use the old plant as long as we can but we can't allow women to visit. Sorry." The assistant safety-manager smiled and turned to his desk.

Make no mistake. This is the same logic of the business people who rule the world today. Never forget how many have been killed in unavoidable wars for OIL. For FOSSIL FUELS, which are killing our planet enough even without all the wars.

The military industrial complex is real, and it must be destroyed.

No one should have enough disposable income to create museums, libraries, music halls, etc. Maybe instead of excusing their actions because of all the great philanthropy they've done, we should question why philanthropy needs to be done in the first place.

Literally, do NOT get me started on the hole industry has dug us into

As always Spacehey: Fuck the System. Solve et Coagula. No Gods No Masters. Etc.

If I got my hands on a Rockefeller I can't be held responsible for what happens

I totally agree. I personally hate how the ultra-wealthy are worshipped in this country. We shit on other countries for having royal families, but we essentially have them in the United States, except they lack even a historical or traditional basis. People ascribe almost supernatural powers to the ultra-wealthy as if they are just so much better than an average person. This sort of sentiment led my dad, along with many others, to worship leaders like Donald Trump, because of his wealth. They just assumed his wealth was somehow from his own merit despite the overwhelming evidence that he got a nice inheritance and actually did virtually nothing on his own to create his empire. It just disturbs me.
