midnight sun is my fav thing evrr

this is literally js me talking about my fav motifs and metaphors and similes from midnight sun so enjoyyy!! ***SPOILERSSS***

(btw midnight sun is the 5th installment in the twilight saga, basically just the first book from edwards perspective.)

OKAY so one, my absolute favorite and one of the largest comparisons in the book, the idea edward has about his and bellas relationship being like persephone and hades'. the way he talks about each concerning moment being like a slice of persephone's pomegranate is so gorgeous and especially when you start the book wondering why there even is a pomegranate on the cover its just so interesting !! and knowing that edward is a vampire and hes lived so long he must know so much about greek mythology and literature alone i love that he chose that as something to compare his personal experiences to. AND the fact that he is planning to leave bella throughout this book is so heartbreaking, it doesnt say this in the book but i love (hate) to think that he thinks of his leaving as like giving her spring and summer back, removing his 'coldness' from her life :((.  (also noteworthy for that, pg. 422 in my copy he describes her as SPRINGTIME PERSONIFIED. hes just so poetic i love him!!!)

next,, this one isnt as common through the book but how edward sees bella as someone so fragile and so breakable so he thinks "bella was like a soap bubble-- fragile and ephemeral. temporary." and that comes up a lot but just the fragile type stuff.

ANOTHER ONE!! i love how edward always describes her skin and how gorgeous she is, especially for a romance novel its so non-sexual and sweet. he is definitely a gentleman, and the way he thinks of her so innocentlly???!!?? ugh i need a man like him (nexttt) i love the specific parts like where he compares her skin to silk on glass, or when hes watching her just being.

and i think this is my final thing for this post (if i think of more ill make another) but theres a piece on pg. 137 that references the title, talking about how bella is like a sun rising in edwards neverending midnight. personally, i really relate that to romeo and juliet, WHICH is what edward, bella, and all of bellas friends were studying for school in the beginning of new moon. the r&j part for me is how romeo compares juliet to the sun, but in this edward does actually know bella atp and its not after meeting for a night. BUT i also think its kinda cute bc theyre starcrossed lovers as well, and they do end up both dead in the end (even if he was dead already)
