I disagree strongly with you. I don't like GNOME because all the applications are just thrown in the Application Menu. I know they are supposed to be in alphabetical order but when I installed Ubuntu Desktop they were not. Also they are not organized by category. OK maybe there is one or two categories. In Desktop Environments like Cinnamon and KDE you the applications are categorized which even Windows does not do. You have "Games", "Internet", etc. This has been really helpful for me when I could not remember a programs name. Cinnamon also shows descriptions of the app along with there name. I really like CinnVIIStartMenu for Cinnamon the best, it can show the descriptions right under the app name.
