Last night I read an excellent essay by Cat Valente, titled Stop Talking to Each Other and Start Buying Things (https://catvalente.substack.com/p/stop-talking-to-each-other-and-start). In the essay, Valente expresses her frustrations with the recurring cycles of growing online communities, only to have them destroyed by greedy corporate interests.
As the Reddit situation continues to unfold (and I continue the mourning process for my internet home for the last 12 years), I resonate a lot with her anger and frustration.
I don't know if SpaceHey will be the antidote to the capitalist poison, but for now I'm enjoying a return to the simpler times of internet blogging decidedly not for profit.
