What is Disinformation vs. Misinformation? ┐( ˘ 、 ˘ )┌

Misinformation is a mistake, with no malice intended.

You told your friend there were cokes in the fridge, but you're actually out. You misinformed them.

There is no endgame for misinformation, it's just an accident.

Disinformation is knowingly telling someone something you know isn't true.

When Alex Jones goes on InfoWars and tells people that the government is putting chemicals in the water that make the frogs gay, that's disinformation. The point of disinformation isn't to make you think the frogs are gay. It's meant to plant seeds of doubt in your mind. The point is to erode your trust in other sources, this makes a person more vulnerable to deception.

The endgame of disinformation is a person no longer trusts any other source of information except you. They refuse to accept any information that questions you, and believe anyone who doesn't agree is either deluded or part of a larger conspiracy. This creates a base of people entirely at your mercy for all their information, and invested in keep that outlet operating (as in giving them money by buying merch and donations).

We're currently living through a Disinformation Age, so stay savvy friends!

Atrazine is no joke, there's a reason the EU banned it.
